On January 10, January Working Journalists' Day, National Unity Party (UBP) MP and President of the Cyprus Health Tourism Council Dr. Ahmet Savaşan, Pointing out that people who make their living as journalists spend a lot of labor, he said, “Unfortunately, we cannot repay this labor. Even if we give a higher value to this labor, we cannot repay their social contributions.”.

Stating that the public and politicians have close contact with journalists and that civil society organizations give their messages through journalists Ahmet Savaşan, “If we live as a people and function as a state, the share and role of working journalists in this is very big. We cannot repay this role and labor no matter what we do. Today, we are experiencing the pain of not being able to improve the working and living conditions of our journalist friends. Our journalist friends are forced to change jobs because they do not have enough income and they move away from their profession they do with love. This is a great loss for society.”.

“JOURNALIST ORGANIZATIONS SHOULD SHARE THEIR VIEWS WITH THE PUBLIC”

Noting that it is imperative to increase the revenues of media organizations in order to improve the working conditions of journalists Ahmet Savaşan, “I believe that our government will take the necessary steps in this regard. However, I think that journalist organizations should also share their views on what can be done on this issue with the public more effectively.”.
